Frequently Asked Questions

What Are The Benefits of Massage?

Massage can help relieve chronic muscular tension and pain, improve

circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue

and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve

posture and reduce blood pressure.  Massage is also known to promote

better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an

overall sense of well-being.

Are There Any Medical Conditions That Would Make Massage Inadvisable?

Yes, which is why it is imperative that you inform me of any health problems or medications you

are taking.  If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written

recommendation or approval for massage or bodywork prior to any session.  (Forms are

available for your doctor, if needed.)

What about clothing and draping?

Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed.  However, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort.  I will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table and cover yourself with a clean sheet.  You will be properly draped with a sheet during the entire session to keep you warm and comfortable.  Only the area being worked on will be exposed.  I also offer fully clothed techniques in Tui Na and chair massage.

What Parts Of My Body Will Be Massaged?

We will discuss your muscular and emotional needs prior to our session, so that I can create the most healthy and comfortable outcome of your massage.  This will determine which parts of your

body require more massage and particular attention.  A typical full body massage session

will include work on your head, neck, shoulders, back, arms, hands, legs and feet.  I offer integrated massage, which incorporates all of my techniques into one massage.  Because each person is different, I customize your massage to fit your individual health needs.  In addition, as your body changes, my massage technique will evolve to meet your needs from massage to massage. If you feel a certain area needs more attention, please do not wait until the end of the session to tell me, so that extra time can be spent on that area or technique.

Will Oil Be Used?

A light lotion will be used to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin, unless you choose a clothed technique, such as Tui Na or chair massage.

Will You Use Different Techniques?

In an integrated full body oil massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes which will help calm your nervous system and relax muscle tension.  As your body relaxes, additional

pressure and techniques will be applied gradually to relax specific areas of tension, always within your comfort level.

How Long Will The Session Last?

Many people prefer a 60 or 90 minute massage for optimal relaxation and tension release. Whenever possible, allow yourself additional relaxation time after your session.

Half-hour sessions are available, but only allow time for a partial massage, such as the back half

of the body or a specific area.

What Should I Do When I Arrive?

Make yourself comfortable and remember your massage is for relaxation and release of

tension.  Be sure to turn off your cellular phones or pagers.  This time belongs to you and no body else.  Take your time.  Relax and enjoy.

What Should I Do During My Massage?

Nothing!  I will either gently move your body parts, such as lifting your arm.  If necessary, I will tell you what is needed during the session.  Many people just close their eyes and completely relax.

Others like to talk during their session.  For some, talking can be a release of stress, where others do not wish to talk.  And some will fall asleep to take a nap.  I will always respect your needs.  Remember, this time is yours!

How Will I Feel After The Massage?

Most people feel very relaxed.  Some experience freedom from long term aches

and pains developed over their lives.  After an initial period of feeling slowed down and

relaxed, people often experience a generally calm state, increased energy, heightened

awareness and greater productivity which can last for days. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water and allow time for your body to relax after a session. Hot tubs and saunas can

assist you in relaxing the whole day or evening.
